Matthew Lo is a Law Clerk at Jeffer Mangels & Mitchell LLP and a member of the Firm's Taxation, Trusts & Estates practice group. He supports the group's attorneys on tax planning, trust and estate matters, and related research, working with individuals and families on their planning needs.

Matthew first joined the Firm as a summer associate in 2025, where he researched complex tax, estate planning, and trust administration issues to support attorney decision-making and client advisement. He drafted client correspondence, internal memoranda, and transactional documents under attorney supervision, and he attended client meetings and worked alongside the Firm's senior attorneys.

Before joining the Firm, Matthew built a foundation in tax law through hands-on government and pro bono work. As a legal extern in the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, he researched the tax code, regulations, and guidance, produced subpoena packages for discovery, and prepared decision and stipulation documents to help settle cases. As a legal intern at the California Office of Tax Appeals, he worked under an administrative law judge, researching franchise and income tax issues, drafting opinions, and attending administrative hearings. He also volunteered with the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic at Inland Counties Legal Services, where he developed a presentation on tax considerations for gig economy workers and wrote about proposed federal tax legislation for low-income taxpayers. Earlier, he was a finance and accounting intern at Seagate Technology, where he worked on the company's SEC and international financial reports.

Matthew brings a careful, practical approach to the work. He breaks down complex tax rules into plain-language answers, keeps matters organized, and pays close attention to detail so attorneys and clients can make decisions with confidence. His background in business economics and corporate finance gives him a working understanding of the numbers behind each planning decision.

Outside the office, Matthew enjoys playing basketball, watching soccer, fitness training, and playing board games.
